This is Sam, your fearless leader in the fight to keep our puppy’s tummies from a-rumblin’. I want to personally thank you for downloading the app and making it part of your life. In thanks I have added my favorite picture of my dog, Rambo.
With that said, let’s get down to business. There is a crucial component of the dog food industry that is insidious and nasty, yet we have to navigate it the best we can. And that is the actual labeling requirements of the food itself. Dog food manufacturers do not fall under the same categories that human food does. Legally, our pets are deemed ‘property.’ And this means that their food can be treated much the same. While this often leads to a variety of different issues and concerns, it is the nature of the beast, as it were, and we are forced to deal with it. What is relevant to this app, however, is one minor detail: dog food companies are not required to be up-to-date with their ingredient labeling.
You heard that right. Dog food manufacturers are only legally required to update their ingredients once per year. And even that is loosely regulated. They are frequently allowed to continue putting dog food into bags that may widely vary from the actual percentages and labeled ingredients, as long as they still have stock of the bags that they initially purchased to sell the food. Uh huh. The bags are more carefully regulated than the food. It is what it is people. I have done my best. I created this app to help people. And for the duration of its existence, I will diligently try to keep up with the thousands of different dog food varieties and their ever-changing ingredients. But keep this in mind: I take absolutely no responsibility for what is actually in that bag of food. In a perfect world, no dog would ever have a tummy ache, would never be sad or unhappy, and they would live forever. I can make none of that happen. What I can do is point you in the best possible direction. That is what this app is all about.
